In many ways, John Kucera is Alberta.

He’s a gritty, hard-working, truck-lovin’, let-the-good-times-roll country-boy and fittingly, a founding member of the Canadian Cowboys — Canada’s most dominant generation of alpine rulers since the Crazy Canucks.

The son of Eastern European parents, he’s been strengthened by his family’s approach to skiing and by the many hard-earned early years on Nakiska and Mt. Norquay’s slopes and the National Alpine Ski Team just waiting for his moment.

It came in Val d’Isere, France on February 7, 2009. John claimed the World Championship in the sport’s most prestigious event — the men’s downhill.

Injured just three months prior to the 2010 Games at the World Cup in Lake Louise, Alberta, John immediately set his sights on returning to competition and defending his World Championship crown.

For now, John is on the comeback trail, with a belief that he has the tools and the heart to accomplish anything including an overall World Cup title, and, ultimately, an Olympic gold medal in Sochi 2014. ef that he has the tools and the heart to accomplish anything including an overall World Cup title, and, ultimately, an Olympic gold medal in Sochi 2014.
